Stream Spire a dynamic sculpture for St Annes Park Entrance Mullingar, Co Westmeath.
Stream-Spire is located in Mullingar Town, Co Westmeath at the entrance to St Anns Park. It is composed of a series of mirror polished stainless steel spheres in a flow formation on a granite base. It is 5 metres tall and 3 metres wide at the base. The sculpture was commissioned by Westmeath Co Council percent for art scheme in 2011. It references the Brosna river and the "stream of consciousness", writings of James Joyce who spent time in Mullingar Town when his father worked as a clerk for Westmeath Co Council during the summers of 1900 and 1901. The sculpture was designed using finite element analysis in conjuction with Fergal Mc Grane structural engineer and Dr Annette Harte and the Dept of Engineering and informatics National University of Ireland Galway . The sculpture was nominated by Westmeath Co Council for the Allianz awards in 2011.
