Cathal Mc Carthy is a visual artist/sculptor from Ballintubber, Co Mayo. He studied fine art in GMIT Castlebar and has qualifications in Theatre, Community Arts and Horticulture. He has completed a number of Percent For Art commissions notably Word-Tree for Sancta Maria School, Louisburgh, Co Mayo (2020). Stream-Spire Mullingar for Westmeath Co Council (2011) and The Player at Ballindine N17 Route Co Mayo (2003) for Mayo Co Council. He is currently working on  new Public Art Commissions including Friedensbaum  a new public art commission for Hochstadt in southern Germany (2020)  and Semblance (2020) for Scoíl Bhríde N.S. Edenderry.   He works in a broad range of materials/processes and has taken part in a number of group shows and exhibitions. He has completed 2 artist residencies at the Richard Hunt Studio in Chicago.  His work is part of private collections in Ireland, The UK and The USA. He has received awards from The Irish Arts Council, Unesco and the Ireland Funds for his work.He works from his studio in Castlebar, Co Mayo. Other projects include Rainbow In A Box (2019) Tracks Young Radicals Commission for Dublin Fringe Festival touring 2020/21.He instigated several major pioneering art projects for people with special needs over a number of years including W.A.M.P (2009)  for Westport Arts Festival with members of Carrowbeg Theatre  Company (Western Care Association) funded but the Arts Council Project Award 2009 and The Clare Island Mystery (1996) A Macnas/Linenhall Project funded by the Arts Council New Work award.
