Crossing
Crossing is located outside Castlebar town in the village of Balloor. It was commissioned by Nolan Developments in 2008 and curated by Mayo Co Council. The sculpture is made from Cor-Ten steel, stainless steel and stone. It is 3 metres high and 3 metres wide in a circular form. The concept for the sculpture refers to an older name for the village which translates as "lower rocky crossing." This name predates the current name Baloor which translates as "new administration" which predates Lord Lucan. From research carried out by Dr Fiach MacGabhann who stated that in his opinion it Lord Lucan my have established this new village in the 16th Century deciding to push some townspeople out of Castlebar and set up a new village at Baloor.
