Word-Tree and Our Place.
Word-Tree was commissioned by Sancta Maria Secondary school percent for art scheme in 2019. Completed in 2020 it is an external sculpture composed of a text/poem written by Sancta Maria Transition Year students in collaboration Poet and Creative Writer Jean Tuomey. The poem was created over a series of workshops which involved creative writing, brainstorming, contemporary poetry, and group work. The new school building was designed by Taylor Mc Carney Architects, Castlebar who oversaw the curation process. It is made from 273 mirror polished stainless steel letters and embraces ideas about education, landscape, locality and community. The internal photographic installation Our Place is comprised of six large scale backlit L.E.D light boxes of photographs taken by a drone in collaboration with transition year students.
