Project Curation:Taylor Architects Casltebar.

Funded by: Dept of Education.

Year: 2020

Our Place  was commissioned by Sancta Maria as part of the internal portion of the percent for art commission. It is comprised of six large scale backlit L.E.D light boxes of photographs taken by a drone in collaboration with transition year students. A textual poem frames the underside of the installation.  The photographs were taken over a series of site  visits to specific locations chosen by the students around the Louisburgh area. The areas were chosen as significant places by the students and important to them. The areas included Doolough Valley, Carramore Strand, Old Head Pier and Louisburgh Town. The Transition Year students also got an opportunity to use the drone to select the various photographs from the sky. Local specialist Drone Photographer Drone Moxie supplied a high resolution camera equipped drone for the large scale photographic installation. Over 400 photographs were taken which then were selected by the members of the student council under guidance from TY Co-Ordinator Ms Deborah Maxwell. The installation is located in the school atrium and visible from the ground floor and mezzanine.
