Monk with Candles is a sculpture that consists of 12 large chimes tuned to the key of C natural.  It was designed to be an outdoor playable interactive sculpture.  It is 5 metres long by 4 metres high. It was commissioned in 2007 by Errew N.S. to mark the completion of their new school extension and funded by the Department of the Environment.  The chimes are made of aluminium and each one is tuned individually.  The sound resonates for up to 30 seconds.  The second part consists of a wooden xylophone also tuned to the key of C.  This project was featured on RTE news television.  This outdoor instrument is used as part of the school orchestra.
